Falling Behind/ Photo Dump

What a contrast. A few weeks ago, I had no structure and unlimited time to plan out my activities, chores, cooking, exercise… Now I feel like I’m constantly swimming to keep my head up. In the best way possible! I did really enjoy my December break and the freedom in that, but I really thrive when I’m busy. Somehow when I sleep less, and my to do list becomes longer, I just do better. Maybe I still crave a little bit of pressure in my life.

Anyway, I was doing so good updating regularly for awhile there! I’ve had a really awesome January, and I can’t believe February is already almost over. And the next few months have so much excitement: I’ll wrap up Term 1 (of 3) with my Grade 11s and I have visitors coming each month! I don’t know how to synthesize the last month or so into one post, so I’ll just talk through pictures. Each one will speak 1000 words, right?

I still find some time to cook! These calzones were delicious.

Splurging on some good coffee when I go to town

Mango season was intense but short. Used the last of my mangos to make chicken tacos with mango salsa.

The days are already getting shorter, which makes it harder to find time for walks before school and runs before the sun goes down. They never disappoint though!

We’re getting ponds overnight now that it’s finally raining! The road is also starting to turn into a pond…

~I spent a lot of time with other volunteers this past month. I explored some new sites and a different side of my region, went camping, and went on a game drive. I also had Reconnect, where I went back to my training town (and Windhoek) to have a week-long training with the others in G48. It was awesome (and a bit overwhelming) to be back with everyone! I got to see a lot of new places, which is awesome, but I was missing the village so I’m glad to be back home for the next few weeks.

Camping was so awesome. We were in a beautiful area near the Botswana border and saw so many animals on our game drive!

Hippos are so funny looking. It doesn’t seem like they would be, but they’re faster than humans not only in the water but also on land.

We saw 10 lions!! This was 1 of 2 males that were following each other (we think one was encroaching on the others space). It was so surreal.

The other 8 lions were lionesses/cubs napping in the shade. They didn’t respond to my meows.

Awesome Ethiopian food from Windhoek! Spent so much money on food. So worth it.

Also went to a Chinese restaurant around Chinese New Year. Crazy to think this time last year I was there! We ate amazing dumplings and I tried hot pot for the first time. Delish.

The Zambezi region is so flat that when I went to Windhoek I referred to these hills as mountains… and I call myself a Coloradoan.

Best part of Windhoek: Wi-Fi so I could video call my favorite human!

(She almost gets the video concept)

Love you all and I’ll try harder to update soon!

Hi Gabs!!!! Your pictures are beautiful! The landscape in each region is so unique. Seems like your finding a little bit of home in each place you go. The pictures of the sky at sunset are my favorite. I just went to red rocks to see the sunrise and it was so pretty. It reminded me of all the beautiful scenes that are in our backyard that we don’t appreciate like we should. Thanks for reminding me of those simple things… love and miss you lots <3
